Six More Join U.S. Collegiate Selects Spengler Roster
Additions Boost Team Roster Total to 18

The United States Collegiate Selects hockey team has announced the addition of six players to the 2025 Spengler Cup roster on Thursday and Vinny Borgesi (Northeastern), Matt DiMarsico (Penn State), Quinn Finley (Wisconsin), Adam Gajan (Minnesota Duluth), Ryan Walsh (Cornell) and JJ Wiebusch (Penn State) have been selected.
The newcomers bring the team’s roster total to 18 student-athletes, who will compete in Davos in December.
A senior defenseman and captain from Philadelphia, Pa., Borgesi has produced 50 points from the blue line over the last two seasons for the Huskies, netting 10 goals with 40 assists. Through six games in 2025-26, he has a goal and two assists, while blocking 18 shots. The Hockey East Defender of the Month in December of 2024, he has earned multiple Hockey East weekly honors, including Defender of the Week after picking up a pair of points in a sweep of Boston College last weekend. His 53 points since the start of the 2023 season are third-most among Hockey East defensemen.
DiMarsico, a junior forward out of Wexford, Pa., currently ranks sixth nationally with 15 points on eight goals and seven assists through 10 games, while ranking second in shots (45). A +5 with two power-play goals to his credit, he has helped the No. 3 Nittany Lions to a 9-1-0 start to the 2025-26 season. In 39 games as a sophomore, he produced 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points.
A junior forward from Suamico, Wis., Finley was an All-Big Ten Second Team selection in 2024-25 after posting 40 points on 20 goals and 20 assists in 37 contests. Off to a fast start this season, he has five goals and four assists for nine points in eight games for the Badgers, who have climbed to 10th in the nation with a 6-0-2 record. A multiple-time Big Ten Star of the Week and New York Islanders draft choice, he has played in 81 career games at Wisconsin, totaling 35 goals and 30 assists for 65 points.
Gajan, a sophomore goaltender who hails from Poprad, Slovakia, is fresh off being named Goaltender of the Month for October in the NCHC, going 8-0-1 with a 1.45 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage across nine starts. In 31 career games for the Bulldogs, he is 15-14-1 with a 2.83 goals-against average and an .894 save percentage, registering two shutouts, including a 3-0 blanking of the University of Minnesota at 3M Arena at Mariucci on October 24. It was the first time the Gophers had been shut out at home since March of 2020.
A junior forward and captain from Rochester, N.Y., Walsh led Cornell in goals (17) and points (31) in 2024-25, while playing in all 36 games. Picking up a pair of assists in the Big Red’s opening series against No. 13 UMass, the 2023 draft pick of the Boston Bruins has compiled 29 goals and 26 assists for 55 points in 73 career games. His seven career game-winning goals are seventh-most among active skaters.
Wiebusch, a sophomore forward from Verona, Wis., is currently leading the nation in goals (11), power-play goals (6) and game-winners (3), while ranking second in points (18) and third in plus-minus (+9). As a freshman, he scored 14 goals with 19 assists for 33 points in 40 games, helping the Nittany Lions reach their first-ever Frozen Four. In 50 career NCAA contests, he has totaled 25 goals and 26 assists for 50 points.
The 12 players who had already been named to the USCS team included: Penn State’s Charlie Cerrato, Aiden Fink and Mac Gadowsky, Cole Knuble and Danny Nelson from Notre Dame, Michigan’s T.J. Hughes, Jake Livanavage from North Dakota, Joey Muldowney of UConn, Eric Pohlkamp from Denver, Minnesota State’s Alex Tracy, UMass’ Jack Musa, and Zam Plante out of Minnesota Duluth.
All returning First and Second-Team AHCA/CCM All-Americans received an automatic invitation to the team. The remainder of the roster, which will include representation from all six conferences, will be constructed by the USCS coaching staff and organizing committee, with guidance from the NHL scouts.
The United States Collegiate Selects will face Team Canada to open play Spengler Cup play on December 26. Each team will play a minimum of three contests and maximum of five during the six-day event.
The tournament is being broadcast to over 20 countries, either through a partner or via livestream. Official word on how the games can be seen in the United States will be announced at a later date.
The U.S. Collegiate Select team will be made up of 25 student-athletes from across NCAA men’s ice hockey. The competition runs from December 26-31, with the six participating teams. Along with the Selects, host HC Davos, Team Canada, HC Fribourg-Gotteron, Sparta Praha and IFK Helsinki will be taking part in the 2025 edition.
