U.S. Collegiate Selects Round Out Spengler Cup Squad
Seven More Players Named, Finalizing Roster

The United States Collegiate Selects hockey team has announced the addition of seven players to the 2025 Spengler Cup roster on Thursday and Owen Beckner (Colorado College), Larry Keenan (UMass), Josh Kotai (Augustana), Martins Lavins (New Hampshire), Gavin McCarthy (Boston University), Jack Stockfish (Holy Cross), and Abram Wiebe (North Dakota) have been selected. The newcomers complete the team’s total roster at 25 student-athletes, who will compete in Davos in December.
A sophomore forward out of Victoria, B.C., Beckner leads the 17th-ranked Tigers in nearly every offensive category, including goals (6), assists (6), points (12), plus-minus (+8), power-play goals (2) and game-winning goals (1). Winning over half of his face-offs (50.3%), he is coming off a 27-point campaign as a freshman in which his tallied seven goals and 20 assists – the most points by a Colorado College rookie in almost 30 years. An NCHC Distinguished Scholar Athlete, he is a 2023 draft choice of the Ottawa Senators.
Keenan, a sophomore defenseman from Midhurst, Ontario, has played in all 11 games for the 12th-ranked Minutemen so far this season, collecting two goals and three assists for five points. A Detroit Red Wings 2023 draft pick, he is a +5 with one power-play tally and 17 block, while averaging 22:35 minutes per contest. In 51 career games at UMass, he has six goals and 10 assists for 16 points. Amassing a +21, he also has 50 blocks.
A junior goaltender who hails from Abbotsford, British Columbia, Kotai is 6-4-0 with a 1.81 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage, which both rank fifth nationally. His 280 total saves through 10 starts ranks second in the country and he has recorded 40+ saves twice, including a 40-save shutout at Minnesota Duluth on October 11. Among active NCAA netminders with at least 50 games played, he ranks first in save percentage (.928) and third in goals-against average (2.23). The All-CCHA Second Team selection and Mike Richter Award Finalist is a two-time Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) National Goaltender of the Month.
Lavins, a junior forward and alternate captain from Riga, Latvia, has played in 72 career games for the Wildcats, scoring 14 goals with 19 assists for 33 points. Two of his tallies have come on the power play and two have been game-winners. A two-time recipient of New Hampshire’s Warren R. Brown Award as the team’s best defensive forward, he has totaled 148 shots and is a +3 with 74 blocks, second-most by a Hockey East forward since the start of the 2023-24 season. A member of Team Latvia in the 2024 and 2025 World Championships, he appeared in a combined nine games over the two tournaments with two assists for two points. Overall, he has played in 27 games with the National Team and has posted two goals and six assists for eight points.
A junior blueliners from Clarence Center, N.Y., McCarthy has played in all 11 games for the 13th-ranked Terriers so far this season, registering two goals and two assists for four points. Compiling a +8 rating, he has 13 blocked shots while averaging 24:55 minutes per game. Boston University’s active leader in games played (88), he has scored six career goals with 19 assists for 25 points. Notching 97 shots on goal, he has blocked 123 defensively.
Stockfish, a junior forward out of North Bay, Ontario, is the third leading scorer in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) coming into the weekend, picking up 10 points on six goals and four assists for Holy Cross. At an even 60.0% (114-of-190) in the faceoff circle, he ranks 11th nationally, while posting a +1 rating in an average of 18:20 minutes per game. The Crusaders active leader in goals with 30, he has played in 79 games, totaling 32 assists, 62 points, 172 shots, eight power-play goals and six game-winners.
A junior defenseman who hails from Mission, British Columbia, Wiebe has produced eight points on two goals and six assists across 10 games for the sixth-ranked Fighting Hawks in 2025-26. A 2022 draft choice of the Vegas Golden Knights, he is a +1 with 19 shots on goal and 10 blocks, while averaging 18:09 minutes per game. In 88 career games for North Dakota, he has seven goals and 35 assists for 42 points and is a +13 with three power-play tallies and 121 blocks.
The complete 25-player roster consists of 15 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goaltenders. Nine are from the Big Ten, six are from Hockey East, six are from the NCHC, two are from the CCHA and one representative each are coming from ECAC Hockey and the AHA.

Goaltenders (3): Adam Gajan (Minnesota Duluth), Josh Kotai (Augustana), Alex Tracy (Minnesota State).
All returning First and Second-Team AHCA/CCM All-Americans received an automatic invitation to the team. The remainder of the roster, which includes representation from all six conferences, was constructed by the USCS coaching staff and organizing committee, with guidance from the NHL scouts.
The United States Collegiate Selects will face Team Canada to open play Spengler Cup play on December 26. Each team will play a minimum of three contests and maximum of five during the six-day event. The tournament is being broadcast to over 20 countries, either through a partner or via livestream. Official word on how the games can be seen in the United States will be announced at a later date.
The U.S. Collegiate Select team is made up of 25 student-athletes from across NCAA men’s ice hockey. The competition runs from December 26-31, with the six participating teams. Along with the Selects, host HC Davos, Team Canada, HC Fribourg-Gotteron, Sparta Praha and IFK Helsinki will be taking part in the 2025 edition.
