On Friday, Mercyhurst defeated Stonehill 6–1 to give head coach Mike Sisti his 600th career win.

The historic win was secured during the Smashville Showcase in Nashville and was led by the duo of Julias. Redshirt freshman forward Julia Perjus (Stockholm, Sweden) recorded a goal and two assists, while sophomore forward Julia Schalin (Espoo, Finland) added three assists. Sophomore goaltender Magdalena Luggin (Vienna, Austria) made 13 saves en route to her eighth win of the season.

Sisti, the only head coach in program history, has led the Lakers since they became a varsity program in 1999. He is just the second coach in Division I women’s hockey to surpass 600 wins, joining Wisconsin’s Mark Johnson (’79). Mercyhurst has compiled a 600–258–68 record under Sisti, boasting an impressive .685 winning percentage. With his tenure comes a long list of accolades that includes 17 regular-season conference titles and 16 conference tournament championships.

The Lakers have made 13 NCAA tournament appearances during Sisti’s tenure, including a streak of 10 straight berths from 2005-14. Only two other programs have matched or surpassed that run: Minnesota, with 13 consecutive appearances from 2008–20, and Wisconsin, with 12 straight from 2014–25. Mercyhurst also advanced to four Frozen Fours during its decade-long streak.

“Congratulations on your 600th win, it’s honestly not surprising at all that you’ve made it to such an incredible accomplishment. You have built Mercyhurst completely from the ground up, have become a national powerhouse,” former player Christie Cicero (’14) said via Mercyhurst Athletics. “Hopefully I can speak for all the alumni when we say we’re so proud that we were able to play for you and forever be a Mercyhurst Laker.”

PWHL Note of the Week:

In hockey we love our highlight-reel goals, team celebrations, and yard sale moments. But hockey is about so much more than the scoreboard. It’s a close-knit community filled with passionate, inspiring people, and it’s important to pause and reflect on what truly matters. Like the entire women’s hockey community, college hockey stands with and stick taps Ottawa head coach and hockey legend Carla MacLeod.
