It’s impressive enough on its own that UConn senior F Jada Habisch has scored a team-high 10 goals in 15 games, a total that places her firmly among the national leaders. But consider that exactly half of those 10 tallies have been game-winners – giving her more GWG than any skater in the country – and it only underscores Habisch’s importance to the Huskies.

The Buffalo, Minn., native was at it again last Saturday, with her second of two goals accounting for the decisive tally in UConn’s 3-1 win over Sacred Heart at the Nutmeg Classic, the ninth victory in 10 games for the Hockey East-leading Huskies. She was later named Hockey East Player of the Week for her latest heroics.

Habisch’s penchant for scoring clutch goals has remained the same during conference play; the Buffalo, Minn., native has eight goals in 11 Hockey East tilts and four of them have been game-winners. A pair of conference rivals will visit Habisch and the 11th-ranked Huskies this weekend, Merrimack on Friday and No. 15 Boston College on Saturday. The latter can be seen live on NESN.

Hats Off to Penn State Pair:

The Nittany Lions’ forward duo of Stella Retrum (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Tessa Janecke (So., Orangeville, Ill.) pulled off a college hockey rarity Saturday when both players registered hat tricks in Penn State’s win over Dartmouth.

Janecke added four assists to tie the CHA’s single-game points record and put the finishing touches on a 10-point weekend that earned her CHA Forward of the Week honors. Retrum dished a pair of helpers Saturday for a five-point night. She also had two assists one night earlier and captured CHA Rookie of the Week accolades.

Penn State will host conference foe Robert Morris on Friday and Saturday.

The Natural:

Franklin Pierce sophomore F Anna Caumo (Brunico, Italy) scored a notable hat trick of her own last Tuesday.

Caumo, who entered the game with two goals in 12 games this season (four goals in 35 career contests), struck three times in a span of 9:14 to lift the Ravens to a 4-2 conference win over Sacred Heart. The natural hat trick broke a 1-1 tie in the third period and earned Caumo NEWHA Player of the Week recognition.

Caumo and the Ravens return to action this weekend with a home-and-home conference series against Stonehill.

Fit To Print:

“It was kind of a hard one to stay in, just having shots so far apart and spread out, but I’m thankful that we got the win in the end, and I got the shutout. I’m thankful I finally got that first win under my belt.”
